R1S range with a trailer
A trailer adds weight, but at highway speed the bigger cost is aerodynamic drag from its flat front. A low, light utility or boat trailer costs less range than a tall travel trailer. Published tests of electric trucks towing campers commonly land between 40% and 60% of rated range, which is the band below.
| Version | Rated | Light trailer (60%) | Typical (50%) | Heavy or tall (40%) | Typical at 0°C |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dual Max (22-inch wheels) | 660 km | 396 km | 330 km | 264 km | 287 km |
| Dual Max (20-inch wheels) | 612 km | 367 km | 306 km | 245 km | 266 km |
| Tri Max (22-inch wheels) | 597 km | 358 km | 298 km | 239 km | 260 km |
| Dual Large (22-inch wheels) | 529 km | 317 km | 264 km | 212 km | 230 km |
| Dual Standard (20-inch wheels) | 415 km | 249 km | 208 km | 166 km | 181 km |
Plan charging stops around the heavy-trailer column for camping trips, and check that chargers on your route have pull-through stalls, or plan to unhitch.
